Vision

    The vision behind what we do at the REM Lab is well summarized by the following figure:

    When we look at the control design problem we can always identify two sides:

- the control;
- the plant.

    Any formal design will be based on a model of each of those two parts. Different models will have different levels of approximation until we reach the prototyping phase and we are ready to substitute the model with the real part. During this process we want to be able to do a lot of testing, verifying how the design is coming along. To do this testing we will use different technologies depending on the level of accuracy. In particular we will move from not- real time testing to real-time testing when part of the system will become available.

    The work we do at the REM lab tries to support the all process developing models, approaches and methodologies supporting the designer in each of the design phases.
    Furthermore we work to make the process of design automatic wherever it is possible, trying to remove any error-prone activity.

As result of this vision the main research thrusts are:

- Real Time Simulation and Hardware in the Loop;
- Development of new control strategies;
- Advanced simulation methods (Simulation under Uncertainty).
